I May Be Behind the Curve…
So I got this email from a colleague of mine this morning talking about the “Global Poverty Act”. Having never heard about this and seeing as how I currently reside in a pretty low-income country, I decided to do a little research on this.
Come to find out that the Obamessia is one of the leading proponents of this, and due to him being a complete socialist in regards to all of his legislation this piqued my interest further. I found this post over at On the Right! about the subject:
Senator Barack Obama is the primary sponsor of S.2433 known as the “Global Poverty Act” that would commit US taxpayers to spending $845 Billion in welfare to third world countries!
The legislation requires the President “to develop and implement a comprehensive strategy to further the United States foreign policy objective of promoting the reduction of global poverty, the elimination of extreme global poverty, and the achievement of the Millennium Development Goal of reducing by one-half the proportion of people worldwide, between 1990 and 2015, who live on less than $1 per day.”
The bill defines the term “Millennium Development Goals” as the goals set out in the United Nations Millennium Declaration, General Assembly Resolution 55/2 (2000).
The U.N. says that “The commitment to provide 0.7% of gross national product (GNP) as official development assistance was first made 35 years ago in a General Assembly resolution, but it has been reaffirmed repeatedly over the years, including at the 2002 global Financing for Development conference in Monterrey, Mexico. However, in 2004, total aid from the industrialized countries totaled just $78.6 billion-or about 0.25% of their collective GNP.”
The “Millennium Development Goal” calls for “the eradication of poverty” by “redistribution (of) wealth and land,” cancellation of “the debts of developing countries” and “a fair distribution of the earth’s resources.”
Zing! Socialism alert!
Here comes the punchline.
The bill passed the House in 2007 and was recently approved by the Senate Foreign relations Committee. A statement from Obama’s office noted the support offered by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee:
“With billions of people living on just dollars a day around the world, global poverty remains one of the greatest challenges and tragedies the international community faces,” Obama said. “It must be a priority of American foreign policy to commit to eliminating extreme poverty and ensuring every child has food, shelter, and clean drinking water. As we strive to rebuild America’s standing in the world, this important bill will demonstrate our promise and commitment to those in the developing world.
“Our commitment to the global economy must extend beyond trade agreements that are more about increasing profits than about helping workers and small farmers everywhere.”
(All emphasis is mine)
What a retard. I personally could give two shits about what the world thinks about the United States, but care about what the world is really influenced by: our consumerism and capitalist nature. I have always been a proponent of finding ways that lower tier countries (i.e. Third World Countries, like France) can get themselves into the global market by developing products that are viable in said markets, instead of giving them free cash and allowing only minimal monitoring of the distribution and spending of such monies (I’m looking at YOU, World Bank) which NEVER WORKS. All giving monies to a “support”-based process (and usually forgiving the debt completely or not even considering it a “loan” in the first place) creates is a reliance on the handout with a complete lack of forward-motion or development of the recipient of the aide. An interesting aside is that this reliance is also founded on denero that was generated from societies that usually have capitalism as their driving force (LIKE THE U.S.) which incidentally creates a bunch of hangers-on that never have a chance to get ahead and actually develop their selves because why should they? The incentive to do so has been replaced by a fucking handout.
In this case that “handout” could potentially be 0.7% of our GNP. Trust you me that is a SHIT PILE of money, which actually belongs, at least initially, to you and me. Also this thing is based off of the U.N. and you guys all know how effective an organization that bunch of fucking hooligans are. Let me give you an example of how I see this program though.
Think of it as a Sally Struthers charity that you have absolutely no choice but to give to and where you have no idea what your dollar(s) are doing.
At least Sally sends you little pics and letters from the ankle biters that you are supporting.

And since most/all of the cash we send to the third world will stay in the pockets of the tinhorns running those countries, the starving people won’t see any of it.
There just is no way that you can monitor the expenditure of these “gift” funds when they hit foreign shores. I’ve seen countries that are recipients of foreign aid and the cash always goes to the governmental body… who in turn pocket about 90%.
This makes me think of the safety procedures before taking off on a plane – put the mask on YOU first… then assist the children or person sitting next to you.
It all sounds nice and dandy to help third world countries… but when your very own country is facing MAJOR economic strife – why in hell would you commit to spending 845 BILLION dollars on another country???
How effective is that gonna be when there’s hardly anything left already… bankrupting an already bankrupt country?
Smart. Real smart.
Canadians aren’t any better… but not that stupid! Our commitment to the Global Food Crisis is 15M … not 845B – the selfish bitch that I am wishes they’d take that 15M and turn it into price reductions on goods and services impacted by recent economic landslides (I won’t point fingers at the US today!!!)
Heh. KC, I’ll make a conservative out of you yet. And about the supposed “economic crisis”… I would like to quote one of my grandparents on that.
“Money doesn’t disappear, it moves. Follow the money.”
LOL… you’ll have your hands full trying to convert me – ask my dad, who regretfully is ultra conservative living with his liberal daughter – it’s a freak show full of laughs! But you’re grandparents are right on the money… and I will use that quote one day!!
But my above comment – I made a boo boo… so I am here to give a wee bit of an update on our incredulous generosity:
“…Canada pledged an extra C$50 million ($49.5 million) for international food aid on Wednesday and said it would also allow its money to be used to buy food abroad and not tie it to purchases of Canadian produce.
Responding to a U.N. plea for extra help to offset a dramatic rise in world food costs, Ottawa promised to bring its total food aid in the 2008-09 fiscal year to C$230 million….”
Ouch. If it means anything the U.S. already provides 23% of the operating budget for the U.N., so we already are in the hole with those douchebags.
The thing that I am most proud of is the fact that we haven’t allowed our governmental processes to be hijacked by them. We still self-govern, even if a few don’t believe that we are doing it effectively.
I just want to punch every socialist in the face. God, I hate them.
Oh, and I’m going to take a stab at Sharpton later… cuz I hate that douchebag, too.
I’m having a hard time finding in the constitution, the bill of rights, subsequent amendments, or Federalist Papers that even *hint* that our tax dollars should be spent as gifts to help the rest of the world.
Could someone please help this small-town Oregon boy figger it out?
As it is, the government grew vastly greater than the founding fathers ever intended. Power was granted to the states, not to the federal gov’t to dole out to the states.
Taxation without representation was a big issue then. Now we get taxation WITH representation, of a sort.
I’m going to stop before I get worked up…
Feel free. I do all of the time (example – this post)
